The pocket watch left by time's arrow

I saw a pocket watch
Left on a park table
Next to some keys
I didn't touch them
I thought the owner was nearby
But as the moments passed
No one came to claim them
I walked away and carried on my business
But I will always wonder
If that watch
And those keys
Were left for me

My own time zone...

When you go out into the world
And you know something is amiss.
When you've lied to yourself for so Long that you don't know what the truth is anymore. But you know you've set this lie in motion as a coping mechanism for whatever it is u think u can't deal with.  You're waiting for the imaginary final piece of your puzzle as if this holds the key to the door with all the answers when in actuality there is no door. There is no answer. And the only thing u need is time. Which by the way you received; as evidenced by your now functioning clock.

P.S.  I should have told u the song was Dream a Little Dream. I hate every day that I didn't tell you.

And so everyday is like the rest. I walk in my own shadow. And I can't find my happy medium. The place between cataclysmic and mundane. How can I explain my journeys between alternate universes where the only difference was where a tree was planted?

In the grand scheme of things there is no one to confide in. Only myself and my fond recollection of a time and place. Or a feeling of utter abhorrence at the smell reminiscent of an enemy. These things only one who has experienced will understand. My thoughts are my only solace. My memories my only friend.

The funny thing about a roomful of people...

The funny thing about a roomful of people...

I spent about an 90 minutes at this networking event, I shook hands with probably 63 people, collected 47 business cards... and although for marketing and sales purposes that's pretty good, the most memorable moment was having one meaningful conversation with 1 man.

As I was outside enjoying the sweltering heat, I started off eavesdropping in on his conversation. He commented on the state of our Gross National Product.

He ended up sitting down at my table. We started off with polite banter: the pros and cons of joining certain chambers and networking groups. Blah blah blah. But then we talked about our families. Where we migrated from. How different the times are now. We talked about our mixed children and the struggles they had (have) growing up in Placer County. We talked about dirt roads, gang violence, and tattoos.

It was one of the greatest conversations I've ever had with a random stranger. And I loved it. Thank you,  random stranger. Thank you for validating my faith in humanity.

Practical Blessings

I’ve always been pretty lucky. I was born on the 7th day of April 1977. I was seven pounds and seven ounces and I was born at 3:47 pm. They dubbed me the lucky 7 baby and the moniker stuck. Recently, I was laid off from a job I loved and I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to pick up the pieces and support my family financially. By the grace of God, I was able to not only find one job, I found TWO. I see everything as hidden blessings and I’m very grateful for everything I have in life. One day, I’d love to share my story with you. As I quote one of my Bosses… “You wouldn’t believe it if I told you.” But until that day, should you need any insurance services please see me and I can direct you to the right agent at Baja Insurance Services, Inc. Or perhaps you are in need of a graphic designer or any type of marketing or promotional material, let me direct you to One Day Graphics. You’re one stop shop for all your marketing needs! Any referral is greatly appreciated.

There's no "i" in TEAM but there is one in "unemployment line"

Scenario One:

During an interview, a prospective employer asks the interviewee if they would mind volunteering their time to see if their employment would be a good fit. This volunteer time would be unpaid and to determine employment.

Scenario Two:

A new hire is told that the job requires a commitment of 6 days a week sometimes 7 days with no overtime. If they are unhappy with it, they can find employment elsewhere.

Scenario Three:

An employer tells his employee that payroll was not processed on time therefore the paychecks will be available one day after payroll.

Scenario Four:

An employer requires his employees to meet daily at a designated place to get instructions on the days work and turn in time cards but actual start time of the job does not occur until they are at the jobsite. (sometimes job site can be an additional 90 minutes of drive time)

Scenario Five:

An employer hires a female employee but at a lower rate than she requested. The employer states that it was not in the budget. However, the employer consistently hires male employees at the rate the female employee asked for.

Scenario Six:

An employer promises an employee a certain dollar raise after a probationary period. After that period, the employer renigs and offers a lower compensation; stating that “it wasn’t in the budget.”

The aforementioned scenarios are actual events that I consider FUCKING BULLSHIT.

Someone needs to be an advocate for the unemployed. Employers are preying on unemployed individuals and taking advantage of them because we all know the economy sucks and finding a decent job is like getting a negative pregnancy test after that one crazy night which you swore you never do except with that one guy at that one place… but I digress. It’s hard enough as it is trying to get a job and competing with millions of other candidates. No one wants to be the “whistle blower”.  Everyone wants to be part of the “Team”. But when people are being taken advantage of, someone needs to be an advocate for them with out someone feeling like they are being a snitch. It’s not fair to not be compensated for your time. It’s not fair to have to beg for your paycheck or to not get paid on the day that is designated as payday. It’s not fair to be the victim of sexism. There are rules and regulations, laws and provisions that are in effect to “protect” the employed. But if no one follows them, and everyone is afraid to say anything for fear of losing their job, what good is it?

N-meshed

We meshed and coalesced like vines
intertwined our timeline looming in
and out sashaying to and fro like a staccato

interval

You perpetuated my fear only to take it
away with a downstroke
I choked
on your love
that you never fully bequeathed

You were mine in room 241
then with the rise of the morning sun
I gave you back to the one who bore your son

I hesitated while you anticipated our sin
Sardonically delicious you enticed my curiosity
with a false veracity
promises of
Forever more

But with a paradigm shift
I lost you to another dimension
Can I be mad at you for
Forsaking your mistress with
another mistress who is me that is yet to be
or is she the me that I once was?

Eye.Aye.I

I am He and
He is She
And she is me
And in the confluence of the third I

Imbibe in that which gives me life
We permeate your soul to
Saturate and invigorate to
Satiate that thirst to
Infuriate that which once enslaved
You

Come with me

And with a flick of her wrist
She ceased to exist to the non
Believers
