You Need a Little Pep in your Step

Self confidence is one of the keys to achieving success - you hear that everywhere. Most people think self confidence is a result of success, but it's actually an ingredient of success. How do you gain self-confidence so you can attract the success you seek?

Fake it!

Though it sounds ridiculous, faking confidence when you have none will actually give you some! Self-confidence is a perception held by you and others. If you act self-confident whether you feel it or not, others will perceive you as self-confident and be more willing to follow your lead, take you seriously and listen to what you have to say. It's the great paradox where confidence is concerned, almost a "which comes first, the chicken or the egg" situation. Have a little faith in your self and soon you won't have to fake it anymore.

Take risks.

There's no need to fake confidence if you live each day like the day before. All of that is known territory- you've been there, done that. The most direct route to self-confidence  is to take calculated risks and examine your results. Will you make mistakes? Absolutely, but those mistakes contribute as much to growing your self confidence as your victories, particularly if you resist the urge to use them to beat yourself up. No one gets it right every single time and to require that from yourself is self-sabotage at its best. Start will small steps outside of your comfort zone and build your confidence step by step.

Stop doubting yourself by default.

We all have that little voice of doubt inside our heads. The trick is to learn when to pay attention to it and when to ignore it. I am a firm believer in "following your gut" and I've had to learn the difference between intuition and self doubt. For me, what works best is to listen to what that doubting voice is actually saying. If its message is mainly lack of belief in your ability or your deservedness, then ignore it and forge ahead. As you gain self-confidence as confidence in oneself and on one's powers and abilities without suggestion of conceit or arrogance. This is exactly what you gain when you fake it, take risks and stop letting doubt control your next move.

Il Bronzino : November 23

Venus, Cupid, Folly, and Time, by Il Bronzino.

His sobriquet "Bronzino" was most likely coined after his darker skin.

Florentine painter Il Bronzino, whose portraits are prime examples of the Mannerist style and whose works are classic embodiments of the courtly ideal under the Medici dukes of the mid-16th century, died this day in 1572.

Dear Girl....

Dear Girl,

If your man comes up on some money, like a quarter of a million, and he doesn't put aside some money to marry you ( like he's been promising ), he's probably not going to....

A husband and wife were in bed watching tv. The husband had the remote in hand switching back and forth between the porn and fishing channels. The wife got pissed off grabbed the remote and kept it on the porn channel and said to hubby.. "Leave it on the porn channel you already know how to fish."

Lady was pregnant and I'm off in some foreign land. Country side flat land. A herd of sheep start running toward me and I see a baby dressed in sheep's clothing on the ground. We are by a wooden fence. I pick up the baby to save it from being trampled by the running sheep. I smile and we laugh. Then the earth multiplies. Mountains upon mountains grow. We're in slow mo time lapse and the clouds are moving while trees are blooming and everything is in abundance. Then I am in a living room trying to figure out how to put a cable into the back of the tv and how to rearrange a sofa set and this living room that now has two tv's. Back to the countryside I start worrying about where I left my purse. I start worrying about identity theft and all my bank cards. Then I'm somehow in a farmhouse and I'm being offered a job but it's only 30 hours per week. I start worrying about how I can survive only working 30 hours hours. I start thinking about the mundane... And then I wake up.

Two days earlier...
I have the recurring dream. Scary. We're being watched through our devices. The world is apocalyptic. There's a hunger games - esque vibe. My son is terrified. He keeps appearing and reappearing. I asked him where did you go? He said I was on the other side of the dirt. The people are being tested and the ones that fail die or be tortured. This place.... I dream of often. Like I've been there before.

Goodwill Industries Really Really Really Bad Customer Service

So in the past, I was a different person and if this would've happened then it would've gone down a little differently, but since I'm a little older and hopefully a little wiser I just burn people on paper. This letter will be faxed to Goodwill corporate headquarters, the donation express location, Call Kurtis, Call 3, and all social media outlets.

To whom it may concern:
On Saturday April 4th, my children and I decided to go to our storage and gather some items for donation. With Easter the following day I figured it was appropriate to teach my children about altruism, the joys of donation, and its cyclical effect in the community (i.e. offering much needed jobs in this economy).  We spent a good time of our afternoon gathering items, 5 bags worth of clothing and toys hoping it will find itself in a good home. So far, this sounds like a great story right? What could possibly go wrong, you ask? In all my 37 years of life, I have never been disrespected during the act of charity until that day. Allow me to rewind…. I’m dropping off my bags and I notice no one is at the front. My son is holding the door open for my while I go back and forth from the trunk of my car to the front reception area. I noticed the place was very filled and there was no bin to put the donations like normal. As I drop off the last bag I patiently wait for the Goodwill representative greet me or acknowledge me. I’m assuming they are doing something in the back. Finally after my 5th “Hellooooo?” someone walks up begrudgingly and angrily chastises me for placing my bags in front of the door. I calmly explain to her that I wasn’t planning on leaving it there but there was no bin. She continues to berate me and go on and on about it being a fire hazard and “can’t I see that she is so busy?” I reiterate and tell her I was not planning on leaving it there and that I cannot see behind the front wall. But I did ask her “Busy smoking in the back?” (I don’t smoke and I can smell cigarette smoke acutely.) She replied with “ Oh’ hell fuck no!” I told her she was rude and asked her for her name which she proudly provided. Then had the audacity to sarcastically wave me off and dismiss me.
I did not appreciate her tone of voice, nor the fact that she disrespected me and my children by using foul language. I did not appreciate her accusatory claim that all the boxes and bags left in front of the door were from me and that I was causing a fire hazard. I did not appreciate her aggressive demeanor. I did not appreciate her lack of shame as she clearly got called out on her unprofessionalism. She ruined an experience that I was trying to have with my kids the day before Easter. My five year old son was pretty shaken up by it and he kept repeating “I don’t like it when someone is mean to my mom. I don’t want it to ruin Easter.” That’s the memory he is going to have every time I tell him we need to gather up our items for donation at Goodwill.
I believe in the Goodwill’s Mission Statement: “Goodwill works to enhance the dignity and quality of life of individuals and families by strengthening communities, eliminating barriers to opportunity, and helping people in need reach their full potential through learning and the power of work.”
I frequent Goodwill thrift stores, I donate to Goodwill, I tell people about Goodwill… I am an advocate of Goodwill and the service it provides our community. However, a business is only as good as its employees. Employees and the experience they offer are the face and the front line of the company. Your employee, Diane, at the 4010 Foothills Blvd Express Donation location is doing your company quite the disservice. If she is happy at her job by the way she proudly presented her name tag, I shudder to think what she is like on a bad day. I should not be castigated by someone who clearly got caught on an extended smoke break. She screamed the “F” word in front of my children the DAY BEFORE EASTER!!!

I demand an apology. My children deserve that. I’ve forwarded this letter to your corporate headquarters and I hope to hear from someone before the end of the week. My contact info will be listed below. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to hearing from you.

Save a Life ... Donate a kidney.

Wow. Its really been a long time since I have written anything.

My dad was recently diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease . Currently, he has only 12% kidney function. His doctor says although the  damage is irreversible there are a lot ways to stop the deterioration. Aside from his cocktail of prescribed medicine, a healthy diet can go a long way. There is a list of food a mile long that he has to avoid. Certain ingredients that are absolute no-no's. My mom is such an excellent cook, it's been really hard adapting to this change. We all try to buy only healthy snacks at the house only items that he can eat as to not tempt him.

The other day was browsing through my "This American Life" app and listening to random podcasts. I ran across this podcast and listened to a segment about Chaya Lipschutz and her website . Her story inspired me. Long story short, she tries to match kidney donors with patients. For all of those who don't know, once placed on the kidney wait list it could take years to receive a kidney. There are less donors then patients who need them. I plan on donating my kidney to my father hopefully I'll be a right match.

So during my research I found this awesome link: For any of my California subscribers, you can sign up to donate your organs upon death.

Here's a website that debunks a lot of the organ donation myths: Mayo Clinic website .

If you got here so far, thanks for reading.... Here are some photos of my Dad.
